Le Parqueur du Canon

Installed in the oyster landscape at Le Canon

About the work

Commissioned for Au Canon, Lège-Cap-Ferret, this life-size bronze pays tribute to the oyster farmers of the Bassin. The figure is situated at the water ’ s edge, close to the oyster parks, grounding the work in the working landscape that inspired it. Conceived to live with the tides, the sculpture shifts with the water level. At certain moments it appears fully present; at others it is partially submerged. This rhythm echoes the daily cycles of the métier, where labour, weather, and time are inseparable.

Making and Casting

Developed over nearly two years, the sculpture was modelled in wax before being cast in the Netherlands. It was finished with close attention to surface, tone, and durability for an outdoor setting, translating the gestures of daily labour into enduring form.

Detail

A defining detail is the oyster fork, based on a family tool used for huîtres plates and shaped by craft passed down through generations.
